Gillett Rail Runners ATV Club, Inc.
March 6, 2006

 

  1. President, Chris Engebretsen, called the meeting to order.
  2. Secretary's Report – Georgeanne Henkel read the minutes form the February 6, 2006 meeting. Jordan Rank made a motion to approve the minutes as read, second by Steve Wetzel, carried.
  3. Treasurer's Report – Gary Pemrich presented to treasurer's report stating that there is currently a balance of $642.00. Motion to accept Treasurer's report made by Brandon Miller, second by Jerry Wendt, carried.
  4. Discussion about council approving request for trail through the city of Gillett . Trail would go into Park on Park St . , to Flower Shoppe to trail. Approval will be for one year only on a trial basis.
    It was discussed that it would be our responsibility by May 1 to put signs up. It was also decided to keep the speed limit through the city at 10mph. It was also acknowledged that there would be possible problems during fair time.
    It was also discussed that the council gave the okay to use the intensive track for training.
  5. Discussion about the ATV Safety course, Gary mentioned that as of March 6, 14 people have registered. It was said that of the $10.00 fee, $5.00 goes to the state, and $5.00 goes to the club. Jordan suggested just having soda and chips. Gary suggested declining Tom & Kay Lietz's offer of Sloppy joes, until the club has held a few training sessions. Dallas Hoerres motioned that the club donate the soda Jordan second, carried.
  6. Discussion was brought up by Shane Rank about his meeting with Gary Hansen, the DNR Regional Director. Apparently we don't have time this year to set up grade so we won't get the $450.00 grant this year.
    We need to get bids on ditches and culverts and grading this summer to be able to get the grant next year.
    The DNR spoke of possibly buying the trail from Gillett to Trestle road, to make it part of the Nicolet Trail.
    The trail must go from the Trestle to Green Valley ; there will also be more money if the trail is classified as multi-use.
  7. Discussion about trail expansion to Green Valley Rd. Gary will attend meeting, Wednesday, March 8, 2006. Arlan mentioned about the trail going south of Shawano Line Rd. , to avoid problem of ATV's on the road.
  8. Discussion on Website update. Brandon showed what he has done with the website so far. He also said that there were about 197 hits in the 10 days that the website has been available.
    Bruce made the motion to have Brandon hook links with Oconto County , Brandon second, carried.
    Gary made a motion to have Brandon make up membership cards for 25 cents a piece, second by Shane, carried. The clubs address will be put on the front and 911 on the back.
  9. Discussion was brought up by Gary Pemrich, saying that Gary Hansen will not fund the ATV recreational map. He will allow us to sell maps. We need to contact Dusty Trails to get together on map.
    The county granted $5,000.00 to do ATV map.
    Gary will contact Dan Hoppe, president of Dusty Trails.
  10. Discussion and possible action on the selling of Dusty Trails 50/50 Raffle tickets. Gary will talk to Dan Hoppe to see if we can put our name on them. Gary made motion to sell Dusty Trails 50/50 Raffle Tickets, second by Dick Rudie, carried. Discussion about getting our won license for raffle tickets, cost is $20.00/year. Brandon made a motion to get our own raffle license, second by Gary , carried.
  11. Discussion and possible action on the Polaris Trail Grant. Polaris will grant up to $10,000.00 per year. We need to be 501(c)(3) to qualify for grant, cost is $500.00 per year.
    Oconto County and RGI will sponsor us so we can apply for the grant.
    Application deadlines are March 1, July 1, and October 1.
    Jordan suggested that the club needs to make a wish list of what we need as far as tools, gravel, signs, etc.
    Brandon made motion to apply for the Polaris Trail Grant, second by Bruce, carried.
    Gary also suggested that someone from the club could design the Nicolet Trail Logo as one has not been designed as of yet.
  12. Discussions about ATV show.
    Shane said we will do the pull, the parade possibly a scavenger hunt, and a mud or grass drag.
    The pull will be on Friday night, it will be the clubs responsibility for costs for lights, water and possible use of track.
    Shane, chair of the ATV pull, got the eliminator from Lena Lawn Mower. Committee for pull is Steve Wetzel, Todd Rudie, Dick Rudie, and Cameron Rank.

    The possible grass drags would be on Saturday and would be held at Park St. Shector Lisowe has donated his land for its use. All costs including beer, soda, generators for timing lights, food and other costs would be ours. Profit would also be ours.

    Gary motioned to have Grass Drags, second by Brandon , carried.
    Dallas will chair drags and will get Gary a projection of profit and costs. Registration for the drag will be from 8:00 – 10:30. Starting time will be 11:00.

    The parade was decided to be held on Sunday. Bonnie Wetzel and Kay Lietz were asked to chair the parade. It was suggested that each participant pay a $1.00 entry fee and receive a certificate of participation. We need 641 machines to break the Guinness record.
    Dallas motioned to have ATV parade for $1.00 entry fee and to get certificate of participation, second by Brandon, carried.
  13. Other New Business
    The subject of insurance was brought up. Jordan said it should cost about $490 for our 10 miles of trail. It will be one million in coverage. Jordan is getting quotes for specialty events.
  14. Discussion made by Dan and Perry who will be going on a private trail ride in Princeton about possibly taking flyers to promote the Gillett Rail Runners and ATV Challenge. The ride is April 9, 2006.
    They will need approximately 400 flyers.
    Gary Pemrich offered to make the flyers which will include all the Challenge events and information about the ATV Club.
    Dallas made a motion to do the flyers, second by Dan Henkel, carried.
  15. Motion by Dick Rudie to adjourn meeting, second by Gary , carried.
